That would require the "someone" to be authorised by you, or be a state-level actor, like Russia or North Korea or the USA. I don't see a state being particularly interested in Joe and Josephine Bloggs's individual smart meters.

We've already got dynamic pricing, aka "smart tariffs". They've saved me several hundreds, possibly thousands. Money that traditional meter customers have had to pay.

When that's introduced (and it isn't here yet) the 14ppm saving will fall to 11ppm.

Even if eVED was in place now, I'd be paying less for that plus my electricity now and through till April next year than I was when I got my first EV in 2018…

For most of that time you and others have been claiming it wouldn't last, eight years on and you have been proved right, the 8p/kWh that I was paying all those years ago didn't last, I'm now paying just 3.49p/kWh :)

They still do even with VED (which EV owners knew was coming anyway)

I would not surprise me If the introduction eVED got put back a little.

I can see problems using annual mileage readings as the basis for cost calculation

Consider someone who travels 10,000 miles a year and a big proportion of that is done in the EU during their 180 days a year.

Make an allowance ( gov't guess ), use GPS to exclude some, convoluted claim process, challenges to DVLA., GDPR compatibility......?

It's not a problem for the government if they bill you for mileage done outside the UK.

You might not like it, but that's tough.

British Gas give me half price electricity for 5 hours every Sunday.

But you need a smart meter to get that.
