Marks and Spencer.....never again!!

Options
Just before Christmas I bought my wife a coat priced at £99 and a jacket at £59. My daughter bought her a pyjama set at £36.

Imagine my anger when the same coat was then put in their sale for £29, the jacket for £19 and the pyjama set at £8. Unfortunately our nearest store had sold out of these before we got there otherwise I would have returned the original items for a refund at the full price and then purchased them at the sale price.

I should have known better because this has happened countless times with purchases from M & S but we have now vowed never again to buy anything from there at the full price as it will invariably be on sale at a fraction of that price within a couple of weeks.

Your loss M & S, not mine in future!!!!! :naughty:

What happened to you is the reason some people prefer vouchers for Christmas. M & S is only one store where the reductions after Christmas make you feel angry for paying the original price. Lots of others are the same.

I'm not sure what M&S have done that is different to any other store?!

Agree with lilac_lady, if you did not want this situation to occur you could have given vouchers.

  • you say they have done this countless times to you - so who's at fault, them for doing it or you for not learning?

Yeah, that is awful.. I would be angry too..

I don't like giving or recieving vouchers / money for xmas, seems so impersonal and I like to see what someone has got me..

The OP has obviously gone to a great effort in purchasing a lovely coat for his wife, only to be kind of ripped off.. not a pleasant experience..

Why has he been ripped off? I don't see any evidence of that?

He hasnt been ripped off, its just a fact of life, if you buy one product in Mr T at £9.99 the next week it could be on offer at £6.99, the same with the ops dilemma one week the coat is priced at so much and after xmas its priced at a lower price, theres not much you can do about it, you cant predict when something is going to be reduced in the boxing day sales, if you had a crystal ball then you might be able to,

  • The most interesting point the OP makes is that his local store didn't have the coat, jacket or pyjamas in stock at the sale price. So, if he hadn't have bought them at the full price, he wouldn't have got them at the sale price either. Do you want the items or not...? Why am I wasting my time replying to this thread anyway, that's what happens at Christmas!! You buy and receive full-priced items as gifts, then you go sale shopping after Christmas and get everything you wanted but didn't get, at a cheaper price.

What it does show, is the mark up on these items, if they can still make a profit on the sale price. The trouble is, we need to buy things for Christmas presents and we know there is a chance they will be reduced afterwards.

... how about buying stuff nearly a year in advance then?! ie. buy stuff in sales ready to give next xmas!!! ;)

As for the OP... not quite sure what they expect to happen in a sale but hey ho...
