Should you split large ETF purchases?

Discount/premium is one aspect, although I was thinking more of short term erratic geopolitics and the effect on markets, and so the underlying assets in ETFs. If I was looking to invest a big amount 'now', I'd consider buying over a period of days/weeks.

I'd rather fire and try to forget. I sold a short duration bond fund to buy it, so I'd rather stay in than try to time the market. Anyway, bought this morning.

I think you were their best customer of the day. No sign of moving the market though.

What's the deal with the many people who buy one share?

I don't know. You do see it a lot. Even before the age of free trading platforms. Either testing the water or wanting to be very diversified I guess.

On minimising spreads, today I also needed to move some AVSG from OH's SIPP to my ISA. By having both ii screens open together and constantly refreshing OH's sell screen and my buy screen, I could monitor the spread and got it around 0.2% when it was often 0.5% or over. Maybe that's the case for buying one share in someone else's account.
