Eon Drive Fixed V7 to V17 thoughts?

Evening guys.

As above thinking of moving tariff. I'm on V7 till end August and rough calcs i'll be £76 (basically 5 months worth of annual difference ) worse off over the period if i jump onto V17. Only have an EV so no Solar, Battery anything like that. Looked at IOG too as we qualify for that but that was the most expensive of the 3. We don't qualify for Next Smart Drive from Eon as our car doesn't qualify. We're out most of the time during the day but wife does occasionally work from home. Sometimes a couple of times a week but it's not set in stone. Our usage for elec is roughly 55/45% Day/Night.

I know there's no right or wrong here but just wondering if anyone had any thoughts that hadn't crossed my mind. I'm aware there may be some benefit with cheap day rates with Octopus but it's a lot more expensive on initial figures just using their set rates. It's impossible to call i think. Plus on our usage of day 2387kWH and night 2917kWH i don't think there would be vast savings.

My gut is telling me to go over to V17 for stability and i can forget about till this time next year rather than have to hunt about at the end of August? Also, as it has no exit fees so if rates somehow do drop i can jump again at no cost.

ps- goes without saying when i worked out costs for the 3 tariffs i used new 1st April pices

Just for clarity, Eon EV tariffs are fixed for a year but you can leave without penalty. So if you think prices are going to go up it might be worth switching early, even if the tariff you switch to is more expensive than the one you are on at present.

Both Eon and Octopus offer a "smart" EV tariff but you need to have either the right car or the right charger to qualify. Presumably the OP has neither.

The OP does qualify, but with their mix of day/night and no battery it isn't an obvious choice.

So the OP has a charger that is compatible with Octopus IOG but not with the Eon equivalent , "Eon Next Drive Smart"?

Yup that's correct. A lot of cars don't qualify for Eon as opposed to IOG it seems. It would make it an easier decision if i did.

Thanks for your replies guys. Appreciate it. As i said there's no right or wrong answer here and it's a gamble. I just valued other opinions as my cooling off period ends today i think.

The way i'm looking at it is the £76 over 5 months is just over £15 per month but i don't even think it will be that as that's a monthly average and doesn't account for lower usage over the summer. I've trusted my gut before and usually done ok in the past and luckily bagged a 2 year Sainsburys deal just before prices went crazy a few years ago. As stated i can bail at any time with no exit fees if i need to.

Btw the new rates from tomorrow for V17 emailed to me were

elec day rate -28.59p kWH night rate-5.99p kWH

standing-60p

gas-5.54p kWH

standing-29.30p

all incl of vat

Just to be completely clear, your EV is compatible with IOG, your charger is not (but that doesn't matter).

Neither your car nor your charger is compatible with Eon Next Drive Smart.

Is that correct?

I think but not 100% that's it probably the charger that qualifies as we have a fairly common Ohme ePod. The car might as well. It's a Corsa btw.

Don't know if Eon Smart Drive require both to qualify but we don't anyway

The Ohme ePod is supposed to be compatible with Eon Next Drive Smart. If your charger is compatible it shouldn't matter about your car. That's the way it works with Octopus (AFAIK) so I don't see that Eon needs to be different. Have you tried querying your compatibility with the Eon EV team?
