CE fine 4-5 months ago whilst seeing a patient

I'll try keep this quick.

Today i received a letter for a PCN that occurred back in 20/11/25.This is the first time I've heard anything about it. We don't tend to get any mail lost and haven't moved or changed DVLA details in the last few years.

According to their website they want £170 and i cant appeal because its too late.

I work for the NHS, was visiting a patient who was having a medical emergency and in significant MH stress. This isn't someone i can leave so i was there for approx 50ish minutes.

I have found a few emails to contact CE on here so i can explain the situation to them. I doubt they'll be sympathetic if im honest.

What's my best course of action here? £170 is insane.

    Ignore them, Wait for either

    1. A Letter of Claim giving you 30 days notice either from CEL or from their lawyers

2 a Money Claim N1SDT pack from the CNBC in Northampton using MCOL

this letter asks for payment within 30 days or legal proceedings will start to collect unpaid debt.

No, a Letter Before Claim is what it says. Read post 2 of NEWBIES PLEASE READ THESE FAQS FIRST.

You'll never have to pay this invoice. Come back if you get a Claim Form m.

PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

So i had the N1SDT form arrived today from the CNBC.

As far as im aware i need to do the AOS 5 days after the letter day 7/05/26, then submit defence via MCOL and wait for the directions questionnaire?

In regards to the defence i dont really know what to write other than what i outlined in the above post. It's almost 6 months ago now but i still remember the patient.

"I work for the NHS, was visiting a patient who was having a medical emergency and in significant MH stress. This isn't someone i can leave so i was there for approx 50ish minutes"

Obviously more than the allotted drop off time allowed.

Is the issue date from the top right of the claim form 7th May. ?

I assume that it's an in house CEL claim. ?

Post a redacted picture of the POC from the lower left of the claim form below after hiding the VRM details first

You will most likely be using the Chan and Akande defence template in announcements

You don't need to add anything to the Chan & Akande version linked in the Template Defence thread, but it is prudent to admit at the end of para 2 that you were the driver and work for the NHS. The Claimant has failed to plead any term or breach but the Defendant was at all material times 'authorised' due to visiting a patient who was suffering a medical emergency.

Then you can build on that position in your WS later.

Not quite right, but if the issue date is 07/05/26 and providing you complete(d) the AoS after 12/05/26 and before or on 26/05/26 your defence deadline date is 4.00 p.m. on 09/06/26

It's the issue date in the top right yes. Under the claim number.

@Coupon-mad & @Le_Kirk thank you very much. I'll complete the AOS on the 13th then. Defence the following weekend

Here is the claim form. I've submitted the AOS today. Just need to draft the defence. Struggling to find the full template/defence in the acknowledgements (minus the bit i need to add/adjust). Only seem to find snippets in threads.

Have they technically stated terms of breach?
