Is "Pay by Bank" different than paying via Open Banking, as the latter works via a redirect to the bank's website (or directly to your banking app if on mobile/tablet). Any service that is using an inline frame or similar is very problematic.

In practice, very few people are manually typing the URL of their bank's website into the browser, so accessing via a link (including from a search engine) is very normalised already. A link from an FCA authorised firm is very much preferable to search engines.

What of course matters is the TLS certificate, which should be reviewed.

I don't actually know the details of "Pay by Bank" or Open Banking, as I don't use them.

I don't manually type the URL of my bank's website into the browser, I have my password manager do that.

Most non-financial sites I open from an HTML document on my computer that I created many years ago, set as the browser homepage, and keep updating. Yes, I'm not normal.

That's certainly better than using a search engine, and even better than using a bookmark in your browser. Only risk is DNS interception or malicious browser extension, which can redirect you to a different IP address, but that's where the TLS certificate comes in.

In both cases, you did not open the window yourself. It was opened by a website that could be dodgy.

If you order a sandwich by card, the OPT that you type into the popup could be used by a dodgy website to buy a pile of gift vouchers. With Pay By bank, the username and password that you type into the popup could be used to drain your bank account, if you fail to check that the window that pops up is legitimate.

I have used Pay By Bank to credit money to my HL account. I typed HL's web address into the browser and logged in. I checked that I was indeed logged into my HL account before proceeding. I was also able to check that the popup was indeed my bank login page.

I've never even thought about ordering a sandwich online, and it's been a long while since I've used a card online except with financial institutions.

I suppose the lesson is to only use well-known websites, and check the URL and TLS certificate for those.

Another question if any II customers would know please.

If you sell a fund in one type of account and want to transfer the proceeds to another type account do you have to wait for the cash to fully settle?

I have an ISA and a managed ISA and I would like to sell a percentage of funds in the ISA and move the proceeds to a managed ISA.

I don't know if I would have to wait several days waiting for the cash to clear before I can move it between accounts to re-invest in the managed ISA.
