Seeking advice re "Engine fault" message in Citroen Berlingo

Wow - thank you. I have read through those links.
Just checking my understanding - is this correct - if I buy this dongle
https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B073XKQQQW/?coliid=IQ9H7EQJ4BTCG&colid=2J5PH7DPXOF2O&psc=1&ref_=list_c_wl_lv_ov_lig_dp_itand plug it into the OBD2 port on my Berlingo and then download this Android app for free
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ovz.carscanner&pli=1
I can then connect the app to the dongle via bluetooth and it will read the codes?0 -
I think you might struggle with one of those dongles.
My brother in law has a Combo Life, it's the same vehicle and engine with a VX badge on it and none of the diagnostic tools I own have worked on it and I have a fair few of them.
From 2016 (PSA as it was then) fitted Tri Core encrypted ECU's and communicate via Can Bus at upto 5 different speeds for their models, which these cheap tools rarely handle.
You might find some cracked or cloned Citroen software for a laptop available for sale somewhere on the internet for sale, but you need the latest version, the earlier version Diagbox 7.83 won't work.
Or a higher end aftermarket tool like a iCarsoft CR Pro which is marketed at independent garages but specifically programmed for later Citroens.

I don't know about the dongle you chose, I do know that the Vgate Icar Pro does work with my 2022 eC4, but I need to use the PSA converter lead to get what appears to be full functionality. I have this dongle the lead is they are really easy to make, but buying the connectors to make your own is expensive!
I've never tried it on a Berlingo, but it did work on a 2016 C4 and confirmed that the airbag light was because of the clockspring (which I'd have put money on before we plugged it in tbh..)
Try downloading Carscanner and seeing if it has a profile for the Berlingo.
(Car scanner is so good I actually paid for it!- about £4 IIRC)
As I said before, knowing the codes might not be much help.
You can try clearing the codes and see if anything comes back, which is a bit moneysaving as they might not come back for 6 months if ever. I haven't done that with mine as I have it booked in, and I still have some extended warranty that might foot the bill…
I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....
(except air quality and Medical Science

If you've got a local facebook community group or something, ask if anyone has a reader you can borrow for a few mins.
I've got the same engine and a cheap reader from Aldi works on mine.1 -
I had a similar code about the adBlue, P20E* from memory. The cause was related to a failed adblue pump but it was just clogged.
I put a couple of bottles of Wynns adblue additive in and filled the tank up, and the error went away. Quite a relief because I was bracing for a whole new system.0 -
Tried that, kept counting down, was at 100 miles when I got it fixed first time.
Added to new tank on day one, still gone again within 3 years.
In 4 year I will replace my car with an EV.
I drive them every day and love them.

Well you guys are amazing! Thank you all very much for sharing your expert knowledge.
Amazon have just delivered this:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0FH9ND8SX?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_titleI had already found the OBD2 port and removed the cover. Plugged the device in and reset the error code. Turned the engine off. On turning the engine back on there was no error code and the little orange picture of an engine did not come on and I drove 100 yds down the road and back - all good. Turned the engine off and on again and all stayed well.
I'm afraid i didn't get to record what the error code was but the text mentioned something to do with diesel particulates. Now I have reset the code I can't find the details I'm afraid.
So a thousand thank yous to all of you who the time to read and advise (and 'thank yous' to the universe.) and thank you to my wife who suggested I ask here about the issue.1 -
I'm the same; I really like mine and keen to get into the EV one as soon as I can justify it, especially now the facelift model is rated for towing.

You've not fixed it. Turning the light off NEVER fixes it, it just kicks the problem into the long grass. Also, it loses useful information for someone who is actually tasked with fixing it, especially if its an intermittent problem. If its a DPF issue (and more generally for any kind of fault code, whether or not it also illuminates the EML) it will have a "code setting criteria" which might mean the car has to get up to temperature, or do a certain number of drive cycles, or up to a certain speed, or the fault be present for a certain amount of time.
Just resetting the light without doing anything will normally result in some kind of delay then it reappearing.
It can be handy in certain situations, for example if you have a long drive home, the fault it intermittent, and it also puts it into limp-home mode.

You may need to find someone with Stellantis group diagnostic kit…
