Fix a dripping cold water tap. (Garage).
i know replacing the tap is the best option but is there another way? if there was a screw to stop water to it for replacement then that would be easy but i have followed the pipe back until it goes back behind the wall and can't see one.
i don't mind removing the hose attachment. is there such a thing as some kind of "plug" to cover the spout. the tap is used rarely.

Turn the mains off.
Take out the screw that holds the handle on, pull off the handle.
Holding the bottom of the body, unscrew the upper part of the body and lift off.
With a large spanner unscrew and remove the insert.
This will have a washer at the bottom, you may get away with removing any gunge or debris but better to replace the washer.
Put it back together.1 -
gulp. 😅😲😅😲

Old school tap, made to be repairable.

Could also while you are doing that add a water pipe stop valve. So it would be easier in future.

Does this count as an external tap? Don't "The Regulations" say that it has to have an isolation valve somewhere inside?
And doesn't the tap have to have a double check valve?
And a replacement tap could have a threaded spout for standard hose attachments.

depends when it was installed.

If you really don't want to take the tap apart and you're not bothered what it looks like. Given you already have a hose connector on there could you make up a really short piece of hose with some sort of hose stopper in the end. Something like this
A complete bodge, but would give the effect you are after I think.

Or Turn the washer over unless someone did that the last time it leaked.

it will be ancient, the people we bought the house from didn't spend a penny more than they had to on anything.
i bet the washer has been turned and turned again :p

i would settle for that, is there any chance of pressure build up from leaking taps blocked this way?
