How is my phone being accessed without my fingerprint or passcode?

That extra information you gave means that the phone is indeed locked when you short press the power button

however there are options on the phone to not lock the phone when you short press the power button but to wait eg 30 minutes before locking it even though the screen has gone black - that was what I was referring to ie asking you to check that setting

There are also options to unlock the phone under certain circumstances even though you have pressed the power button and locked it.

So in summary yes you short press the power button and yes the screen goes blank but the phone can wait up to 30 minutes before locking depending on the setting and then can even unlock itself depending on the other settings

Only just got your message now. I'll take a look.

Just to add in extra info - because of my job I also have a USB-C port plug in place at all times other than when charging (as I always charge via cable).

Granted, these things wont be water-tight, I'm just mentioning it. The day in question I was pretty sodden & it sounds like today is going to be more of the same. Joy. Waterproofs & wellies at the ready.
