How is my phone being accessed without my fingerprint or passcode?

Galaxy S24+.

To access my phone I need to either do fingerprint unlock or enter my passcode. I can't get in any other way.

Today it's been absolutely tipping it down & so my phone, on the inside of my jacket pocket, got quite wet still as my jacket was soaked through.

** When putting my phone in my pocket I ALWAYS press the power button to send the screen black first!!**

During the day I've had it change from dark mode to light mode.

I've had it on 3 occasions start a voice recording. It was recording for an hour at one point, then turned itself off. A bit later it recorded for 10mins & then a while later it recorded for over 2 hours.

Not the first time it happened while the phone was damp/wet.

How so when I've not unlocked it?

I would guess that either the screen was off but phone not locked or your face unlocked the phone.

check your settings under 'lock screen and aod' / 'secure lock' and 'extend unlock'

I have had my iPhone in my pocket while walking the dog a couple of times and it seems an incorrect passcode had been entered multiple times, as the phone was completely locked and I had to wait about an hour both times for it to unlock itself.

It probably has the Samsung voice recorder lock screen widget, needs removing.

As for maybe it wasn't locked properly - absolutely not. It was locked.

Not an android user but there are often strong parallels with other OSs and with them its possible to have certain functions that can be triggered with the phone still locked however behaviours may vary if the phone isnt unlocked. For example on iPhone you can as standard call up the camera whilst the phones locked but whereas taping bottom left would normally open up your past photos with a locked phone it only shows the photos taken in this session and not any photos taken before.

iOS by standard allows you to open the Control Centre on a locked phone which would allow you to toggle between dark mode, as standard. Given it also allows you to turn off wifi and cellular the general recommendation is to change the settings to stop control centre from being accessible whilst locked or remove these from the control centre as it gives a thief the ability to disable Find My on a locked phone

Are you sure? pressing the power button does not necessarily lock the phone...

Put it this way...

If I press the power button then the screen goes black.

If I then touch the screen I'm prompted for either fingerprint unlock or my pass code. I can't then view the home screen or indeed any screen at all without doing 1 of those 2 things.

So if it's not locked then it's whatever state you'd call what I just described.

Edit to add, because I can sense what a potential follow up could be.....

To be clear I said press the power button. That's a short press. Not a long press. Just press in & let go straight away.

Check your settings and have a look at 'Extended Unlock'

You may have 'On-body detection' turned on……If not I would guess it has some water ingress that caused the problem temporarily…

Once dried out it should be fine again.
