switching from Sky to Virgin

Hope this is the right forum for my question.

My Sky TV bill is now at £125 / month. For the same offering with Virgin it comes in at £70 / month.

With Virgin, you have to take their broadband (500mb). However, I already have Fibre broadband with Vodafone - 1gig speed for £28 / month.

Even paying £28 + £70 still comes in £27 / month cheaper.

My (daft?) question is - is it possible to have two lots of broadband in one house? Would the Vodafone broadband interfere with Virgin TV?

Thanks in advance for any help / thoughts…

  • I've not looked at Virgin, but some companies will put something towards buying you out of your existing BB contract. How long do you have left on your existing Broadband?

Technically, you can have more than one connection as I did for 2 weeks when I had FFTP installed.

  • As a side note, do a channel audit for what you currently watch and need as you may find that subscribing to 2 or 3 separate streaming services works out much cheaper than Sky or Virgin.

I am considering doing similar due to Sky charging me too much and wonder how Virgin deal with TV

Is there any recording ability using a Virgin box ?

How reliable is it really ? I see almost constant reports of Virgin being down

If you do a lot of recording then ideally you'd want a V6 box/software, the newer 360 box/software is more streaming oriented. I'm not sure if you can get a V6 though.

They also have a (very good) streaming box which is much better than Skys option. I got one for free when taking their BB and you can add option packages at will (Sky channels, sport etc) and remove them on rolling monthly subs. No recording of course.

My VM BB has hardly had a blip in 2 years, just very occasional work on the infrastructure, the same as when I had Sky BB.
