If you move to cost plus, history shows us that "magically" all the costs all become the same.... And it's the highest cost, not the lowest. Also the 'plus' is often a percentage, so the higher the cost the higher the profit.... This is why there are very few cost plus contracts around these days. There is no incentive for the supply base to lower costs and the consumer gets a poor deal. Marginal pricing generally delivers better value than that model....but may be you could suggest a way better than both?

Hmm, not with renewables in the mix. It used to work well when we just had fossil fuels only but with renewables being so much cheaper, and you're right that the most expensive form of generation that is the reason why bills are so high at the moment - because gas is being added at the last minute a lot of the time. When I'm saying cost plus, the costs should also be transparent (and regulated so that those costs could be monitored closely), I'd find it hard to believe that an energy provider could justify charging the same if they had renewables only as their source as another that was using gas peaker plants only

Well, I'm hearing that the Energy Secretary is working on doing this now anyway, so my petition may be irrelevant. Let's see

The current government clever idea seems to be that if they set up a government owned and run company to do all buying of energy from producers on behalf of wholesalers and retailers, then the wholesale 'market' will cease to exist and the government can set whatever price they like. As the same government advisers and civil servants who didn't bother to hedge Bulbs supplies will be involved, it can only end badly.

What are the details of these contracts, and why is it signing commercial contracts when it is not involved in energy supply?

It is a daft process, I dont understand the merits, I can only guess that they think if someone cant even get friends to sign it, then its not worth publishing. But of course one can just do some fake signatures to get it through the first step. Like the others I wont sign something I cant see.
