How much does it cost to move?
I have a flat here in the South East, valued at 240k. Outstanding mortgage is 60k.
How much do I need to budget for moving costs?
Solicitors 5k?
mortgage broker, Haysto 1600
Moving removals 5 mile move 1k?
Stamp duty? selling for 240k and buying for 265k?
anything else I've forgotten…..
thanks

No stamp on selling, only on buying.
Removals are highly variable depending on what type of service you use, who's doing the packing etc.
Other things depend on how picky you are being with what you buy, most the time you'll find some furniture doesnt fit or you need a white good or you're increasing the number of bedrooms so need stuff for the new room. Normally a budget to cover these sorts of things would be sensible but if you have a super kingsize bed and are making sure you are only looking at places where such a large bed will fit etc then you can mitigate most of these or accept a room will be empty for a while if you are upsizing etc.

It'll be around £3250. You can check here: https://www.tax.service.gov.uk/calculate-stamp-duty-land-tax/#!/intro

Thank you, that's more than I thought…

not that it costs a fortune but you might want to redirect your post.
you may also want to change the locks, cost of that depending on types of lock and how handy you are0 -
in my experience there are always unexpected costs. So budget a healthy contingency fund.

We budgeted around £5k plus stamp duty. We had a few hundred quid left. Solicitors was about £2,300, survey was £800, removals were £1,300. Postal redirect was about £100 I think. This was 2024.

Solicitors were £2,300 buy AND sell?

Yep. There's more work for them to do on the buy, not as much work on the sell. We may have paid a couple of hundred quid on account so could be a bit more, but not a huge amount more. We were buying a 4 bed semi at £350k. Get a few quotes.

My last house move (buy&sell) cost me almost £30k in tax/fees and removals.
Don't intend moving again for a while.
