Business vehicle recall - is compensation possible?
We have a Mercedes sprinter van that has had an outstanding recall since last year due to a problem with the software. We have booked an appointment this week and have to drive around 2 hours to the garage and back twice to drop it off and collect, as well as being picked up and dropped off while the vehicle is in the garage. Should we try ask for compensation?

You can try, but the answer will almost certainly be no.

If the van is used for business, the travel and associated costs of dealing with the recall are generally allowable expenses for tax purposes.

Perhaps a better question is why you chose a vehicle for which the nearest dealer is a four hour round trip away?

My guess would be lease and they have nominated dealerships they work with, something many do not find out until something goes wrong.

Or as has happened to me, the dealer that was within easy cycling distance unexpectedly closed….
I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

Has the vehicle been serviced in that time? If so why was the recall done at the same time.

Have you asked about a courtesy or rental van whilst the work is being done? That'd mitigate your costs significantly.

Except a recall or any warranty could be done by any official Merc dealer. 94 in the uk. So unless OP is in far north of Scotland there should be closer dealers.

I haven't no. It's a day fix so i helped pick up and will drop off the driver at the garage.
We don't have the merc dealership that deals with vans nearby. I should've wrote it clearer, 2 hours in total (30 minutes to get there from home)
Just surprised they don't offer compensation really when it's a manufacturer fault, if i didn't drop off / pick them up it would've been a hefty taxi rides at least.

Looking at that link, I have no Merc van dealer within a 3hr round trip. And I'm in the West Midlands.
