Gladstones/Minster Baywatch: Judgment was obtained electronically via Money Claims Online

Hi,
First of all, thanks for all the great advice dished out here!!!
I received a PCN from Gladstones on behalf of Minster Baywatch in 2024. Did all the usual appeals on POPLA etc. The correspondence stopped for a bit, then I received this email on 26 Jan, which follows an email to them informing them of my address change.

"Please note that your address has been updated accordingly. Please find attached the Evidence Pack which we trust to be self-explanatory.

Our Client is therefore satisfied the case against you should proceed unless the debt owing of £170.00 is discharged in full. To ensure no further action is taken, you should make payment on or before 6th February 2026.

If you do not make payment, we are instructed to issue legal proceedings to recover the outstanding balance in full. Should it become necessary to issue legal proceedings, we suggest you follow the steps on the claim form upon receipt of the same."

This email was ignored as I'm waiting for them to send what I believe is the Letter of Claim/N180 (can't remember which - this is my second PCN which I am actively fighting against

And suddenly, I received this email from Gladstones yesterday:

"Thank you for your correspondence dated 11th January 2026. We note that a Judgment has now been issued against you to the sum of £271.96 and we now invite you to make payment in order to conclude the matter. Judgment was obtained electronically via Money Claims Online, therefore there is not a physical copy of the Judgment.

Should payment not be forthcoming by no later than 10th April 2026, the matter may be passed to an enforcement team to further recover the debt owing."

Does this mean that their claim went to court without my knowing? How is this even impossible as I received no letters/emails etc? Does this mean that I have lost and will have to pay in order to not get a CCJ?

Thanks so much!

Was/is your address correct on your V5C? Have you ever received a N1SDT claim form? Do you have a Government Gateway A/C? If so, you can log in and go to MCOL and see if there are any lives claims against and you should be able to see where they sent the claim form.

Hi, no a N1SDT form was never received. Was it even possible they bypassed the usual protocols and went straight to MCOL?

They Always use MCOL for a Money Claim, standard practice these days, a one stop shop

A court claim against. you would be an N1SDT court claim pack from the CNBC in Northampton using MCOL, to the address on file, which is posted, as are all court or government documents !

Did you receive a court claim pack in the post to your address. ?

Is there a claim reference number on that latest email from Gladstones ?

Have you checked your V5C for the address? Is it correct? Was it correct at the time of the alleged incident?

No, no court claim packs were ever received. Do you have a rough idea when it would be sent, if the judgement was only passed recently?

The V5 was correct 2 years ago, when the incident happened. However, I have moved since then but have not received any documents at my old address, nor at my new place.

Their own deadline was 6th February, meaning that any possible N1SDT Money Claim would be after

Is there a claim reference number on the latest email. ?

Does it name their client. ?

Yes, this is for Minster Baywatch, and yes there is a claim number. I have replied to ask why there was no documents sent to me etc.

They acknoweledged the change of address in January, which means I would have received the N1SDT in the mail - except there weren't any!

Could it be they went straight to MCOL, which a default judgement was passed? What are my next steps now? Thank you ever so much

I think they used MCOL to obtain a default Judgment so you must obtain all the information below first

Phone the CNBC in Northampton and quote the claim reference number and your name etc

Find out the name and address where the N1SDT claim pack was sent to

1 Ask for the name of the claimant and if it was Gladstones Solicitors who issued it

2 Ask for the Particulars of Claim details

3 Ask for the date of the Judgment

Write down all of the answers to those questions and reply here with all the basic details, so 1,2,3 above

( do not give us personal or private information, don't give us the reference number either )
