Hi

For years our charity has been using two Equals prepaid cards to purchase stuff abroad. We used Equals because they waived the fees for charities. Today they have ceased the waiver and will charge £25 per month.

So please advise me on an alternative company which can provide two prepaid cards without such a huge fee. A small fee would be OK.

I checked out Revolut but their website is a bit perplexing with so many options. Could we get two cards on their free Personal account ?

Are you personally the charity? Charities would normally require what is basically a business account. The only way of using a personal account would be if you paid for things yourself and then expense it to the charity. If its travel/subsistence then this is likely fine but if you are buying things for the charity then this can introduce other issues.

Are the two cards for the same person or an unrelated person? If you are using a personal account to have another name on a debit card you are basically talking about a joint account and so ties your histories. With credit card the issue is the primary account holder is liable for all debts the secondary runs up so if they go rogue they could be left carrying the can as the charity wouldnt be obliged to reimburse.

Our Equals card account is a business account.

  • We are also struggling to find an alternative after using Equals for many years

We have gone for Revolut cards instead. We are a very small charity so they should be OK.

Could you try for one of the standard "travel" credit cards that don't charge an FX fee? I will admit, I don't know how a charity would be classed - business or personal. But it might be worth looking into?

I realise that a credit card is different to a prepaid card, but just a thought.

Our small charity requires two prepaid business cards with little or no monthly fee. Not for donations but for spending.

We have used Equals but now they charge £25 per month. Wise seem to only allow one card per account. Revolut business cards charge £10 per month.

Is anyone aware of a better alternative ?
