Do you have any visitors who could do the physical swapping out at floor level? For someone with the mobility it should be a quick straightforward task (famous last words!).

Once that hurdle has been overcome, I would highly recommend @flaneurs_lobster option (b), change the password on the new router to that of the old one so that existing devices will find it. And don't forget to overwrite the new password physically written on the new router with the old password.

    Does our TV count?

I think I understand now what physically needs to be done but just now need to find a way to get myself down to ground level to get my hands on things to get it done. Or find a local 12 year old to do it for me. I do hope my neighbours, most of whom are in their 90s have managed to get this sorted somehow!!

Raise a Formal Complaint with EE… That'll get their attention a smidge… It would seem logical that you should be eligible for them to waive the install fee due to your physical difficulties. {Have they discounted it from the headline £99 rate?} and get a refund of costs since the landline has been down.

Local Paper and/or TV / Radio news might like to run with it, as well ;)

We've a WhatsApp group "neighbours/neighbourhood" chat (or two or more) where such a request would meet with a helper, me quite possibly - and I'm no spring chicken any more.

FWIW we are moving ISP and losing a landline altogether tomorrow. We won't miss it and use our mobiles (£4.90 a month x 2).

EE International calls inclusive seems expensive from a quick look: How Much do Calls, Texts and Data Cost? | Home Phone Help | EE Have you considered a bundle with your mobile, e.g. from someone like Lebara with inclusive international minutes, funded by losing that landline rental/calls costs? You could keep the landline as VoIP if really wanted for other to call you on (others know exactly how and how much).

Do you have a console table or a coffee table that you can place the new router on, will be a lot more convenient and more likely to give a better wi-fi service than router being on the ground.

If unable to get EE to do anything via Victors very good suggestion it would worthwhile to bite the bullet and just pay the call out fee, worth it to have the convenience and piece of mind of your 'landline' phone, at a height you can use.

When you got the new service/hub did an "engineer" turn up with it or was it just posted to you ? To be honest EE/BT are not being very helpful to say the least

Second sentence in OP's initial post: 'We were recently sent a VOIP thing to replace our current wifi hub and plug our land line in to.'.

I'm afraid you are discovering the big providers aren't terribly interested in their integrated VoIP; not very helpful, switch people unexpectedly, etc…
Better VoIP providers exist like Phonely, VoipFone, AAISP voip service… AA SIP service is useful in that you don't have to be on AAISP internet and they let you forward calls to mobile after X rings etc, as well.
In any case, the independents are more functional than big-name ISP facilities, in my view.
I would also note you can take an opposite sort of approach, find Bluetooth enabled phonesets and connect them to Mobile phone, acting as a set of cordless phones running from Mobile master. Panasonic do these and BT 090631 090632 sets can be found on ebay too.

Are you registered as a 'vulnerable customer ' ?

It's something I was told to do on the energy board and at first it was great. A dedicated number answered in reasonable time by a human. It's all now slipped to you're the same as the rest of the hoi poli. But it does in theory give you priority in power cuts etc and can with some persuasion, get problems (mostly caused by the company you're phoning) sorted out.

This is the EE one https://ee.co.uk/help/here-for-you/vulnerability-policy

It just gives you a lever to work with the uncooperative. Can't remember if it's pension age or 60.

Just a warning. You do get woken up by the National Grid texting there's a power cut at 3am 🙄 and again at 4 when it's back on. They are keen.

I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

I registered as a vulnerable customer because I use some medical equipment at night. They sent me a plug in torch, which is quite useful, and some advice about putting a message in a bottle in the fridge. :)

No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?
