I'm really disappointed that the reduction is off the usage not the standing charge, as always the more you use the more you save, ironic in this day and age with energy. Particular when my understanding is the costs that have been removed were within the standing charge.

none of the budget changes were recouped in the stading charge.

Thats been made clear since budget announced

a component of the whd costs were.

And in the Apr cap - whilst budget moving £133 to taxation, the unnanounced by political fanfare - network costs are increasing £69.

and as of July 24 after £103 added - TCR moves - half the electric standing charge was network costs.

if it wasnt for gas prices dropping - direct wholesale dropping - £55ex vat - the £117 saving would have been halved. Maybe c£60 - not the budget £150

But come July of course when cureent wholesale (post start Iran) comes back to bite us on svt - all tge govt and ofgem extras will still be there - in last 2 + Apr caps - totalling £134.

So the £133 move to taxes actually just about covering govt and Ofgem additions over a 6m period - acrualky a £1 short.

And the costs still exist - so we pay via taxes and business taxes when reflected in retail prices.

Hair splitting, you know what I meant. The government said everyone will get £150 which won't be true at all.

The government says lots of things, I am not really sure what your point is.

The actual budget documents detailed what would be removed from consumer energy costs, they are all components of the unit rate, so are no longer being charged.

According to my new rates, no change in standing charge but small saving on unit rates

There's a good chance I could save as much as £3 before the rise in July kicks in.

One way or another we will pay more

What was actually said in the budget document was:

The Budget is delivering a package of measures to remove around £150 of costs on average from household energy bills across Great Britain from April 2026.

Hence as an average some will get more and some less, not that everyone would get £150

As long as the government gets a good sound-bite, nothing else matters…
