Sorry what I meant to say was that the SP101UK was able to preheat to 200C in 60 seconds when used in fan oven (e.g. bake) mode (not in air fryer mode). That was the main reason that we bought it

I note that is stated as a "feature" on the literature for the SP101.

However, how is that "feature" actually any different on any other air fryer of similar internal volume?

To heat 10 litres of air from 20 deg C to 200 deg C in 1 minute will require around 0.035 kW power input. Most plug in devices are rated at around 2.4 kW.

Unless there is something I am missing, that 60 second pre-heat does not seem exceptionally special.

I guess I'm only concerned with the fan oven mode, rather than air fry mode. Maybe this is indeed "normal" for multi-functions ovens of this size, but I can't find a way of determining this.

TBH I thought air fryers only operated in a fan oven mode anyway,. They are just a heating element with a fan. Their advantage being a smaller volume to heat and can probably achieve a stronger airflow to distribute the heat, regardless of temperature being set.

The different modes are just preset temps and time

I thought all air ovens/air fryers don't need pre heating, unless you want a hot bottom , so to speak , e.g. pastry. But then I can cook, can't bake though.
