3rd Party Liability Insurance for dogs - Dogs Trust stop from 30/6/26
I've just had an email from Dogs Trust saying that they are no longer offering 3rd Party Liability insurance with the Companion Club membership. I cannot afford full pet insurance - both my dogs are 13 years old and the premium quotes are ridiculously high :o( .
Does anyone know of any other organisations like Dogs Trust that offer 3rd Party insurance? Thanks 🙏

3rd party dog insurancedog insurance that includes 3rd party cover.https://www.comparethemarket.com/pet-insurance/content/third-party-dog-insurance/

Check your Home Contents insurance, it's not uncommon for it to cover your liability but they do tend to exclude breeds listed under Dangerous Dogs Act 1991 and some exclude all dogs.

their quotes are for full pet insurance including third party cover.

Ah, my apologies. I took the title to be the actual product they were promoting, didn't check the listings themselves.
I'll annotate my post.

The heading is misleading as it does refer to Third Party Insurance .
It is only when you go further you r see lies it is only a part of t bf e insurance.

As MyRealNameToo says, you are very probably already covered by your home insurance policy: if not make sure your next home policy covers this part liability for dogs. It's pretty standard, unless you have a breed which is covered by the Dangerous Dogs Act.

Just checked ours (we are with LV) and it looks like we are covered under the public liability section (limit £5 million) although excluded is "injury or damage caused by any dog which is designated dangerous or allowed to be dangerously out of control under the Dangerous Dogs Act", which obviously covers any dog not just those breeds listed under the act, but then third party insurance possibly excludes dogs out of control as well? anyone know?

Isn't this a general rule for all insurance - you can't be insured for actions that occur while/because you are breaking the law?
Bit like not being insured to drive your car if you are drunk?

Looking at the LV Pet policy their terms are much longer than those in the Home Contents and it does have various carve outs however it does not include either of the two items listed above. However… it does state that you need to check your schedule to ensure the section applies and therefore its possible that they could remove the section if you declare the dog is of a dangerous breed as defined by the legislation. Given they will know the breed at quote stage they can take a different approach to Home insurance which covers any pet you have without asking about them. No other routes for "dangerously out of control" to be excluded though.
Thats not strictly true, Motor insurance will cover you if you are charged with driving without due care and attention or dangerous driving. Driving under the influence is more the outlier than insurance not covering illegal activities.
There are some general principles, if you stole a TV and then someone stole it from you then no the insurer won't pay out. What insurers cannot do is explicitly target illegal activities, so a while back one insurer sold loss of licence insurance, so if you lost your licence for drink driving they would payout monies to cover taxis etc. I'd have been surprised that it would be a profitable line of business to write but they were instructed to withdraw the product fairly sharpish.

That's interesting, I've been mistaken in my understanding.
So if I total my Audi by trying to go round a roundabout at 130 (and am convicted of the traffic offence) I'm still covered under my motor policy?
