Another Evri mess. What to do?

So I bought an item of clothing from the US on eBay.

They shipped it quickly via DHL and Evri took over once it arrived in the UK.

They attempted delivery but I was at work so they just took a photo of the entrance to my flats complex and notified me they'd be back the next day. I work during the day so I logged on to divert the parcel. But looking at their very specific options for safe places etc. None were suitable for me. No safe places such as porch/outbuilding/shed etc because I live in a flat. If they could get into the building by buzzing another resident then I'd be happy with them leaving it outside my door. But there's no option for that. Then they had an option for 'specify a neighbour' with a dropdown box for all the neighbouring flats. Thing is, I've not long moved there so don't know anyone, or even which flats are occupied. So I can't do that either.

On the rare occasion this has happened before with other couriers, they'll take it to a local shop or post office, or at worse, a depot somewhere for me to collect. But not Evri. No option to have it left anywhere.

So it's now been three failed deliveries and it looks like it's going to be sent back to the US. This is incredibly frustrating as there seems to be no way to contact the driver. I've contacted the eBay seller to see if they can do anything. But nope. They sent it with DHL anyway…

Anybody else been in this ridiculous situation? I don't know who's going to be paying for it to be shipped back to the US but it won't be me and I can't imagine the seller will be happy with that either. And how can I get my money back for the missing item and who is responsible?

Anyone got any ideas?

Ebay.com or ebay.co.uk? It might make a difference.

If ebay.co.uk was the item correctly listed as 'coming from usa', and what does the tracking say? You have a buyer guarantee on ebay.co.uk so should be able to get your money back if the item doesn't show as delivered. Not sure about ebay.com but would guess fewer consumer protections....

For the record evri does allow divert to a parcelshop but in this case they seem to be a subcontractor.....

Hi. Pretty sure it would have been .co.uk. as that's what I use day-today. I'm not too worried about the prospect of losing my money. I'm sure that'll be covered and we're only talking about £30.

I just want the item. It was for an occasion. It's just incredibly frustrating why I haven't got the option of picking it up from somewhere. Seems completely wasteful to ship it all the way back to the US instead of leaving it at the local post office.

I usually just choose the nearest safe place to our actual safe place and they leave it there.

Try and call the local depot, or even visit them. You need to be super friendly to get any help though. They don't really have anyone who cares where your parcel goes so you're relying on someone who will willingly help.

I'm surprised that they don't offer the option of redirecting your parcel to a local Parcel Shop because that's happened twice to my parcels recently, though definitely not at my request because the shop in question is physically inaccessible for me. Mind you, Evri have had a new parcel of mine at the delivery depot with no change to tracking since Monday, so…

So I choose “front porch” and they leave it at our letterboxes.

Ahh ok. There's literally nowhere here. If they left it out in front of the main door to the flats it'd likely be stolen. It's a busy area.

If you work during the day and don't have any safe places it's probably a good idea to use the address of a parcel shop/locker or your work address next time you buy something that needs delivery..
