HUMAX AURA FVP-4KGTR has gone bonkers :-(

Hi.

This is a second-user recorder, so no warranty. Working superbly, until today it did this:

No sound, whether there is a picture or not.

Terrestrial (FreeviewPlay) guide shows up correctly, but selecting a channel just gives a black screen.

iPlayers work - to provide an image, but no sound.

I've reset it, but no difference. Any ideas? Ta.

Have you checked to see if all connectors from box to tv are fully engaged?

I found this article, it was from last March but it says Humax released an update to fix the issues mentioned which are similar to yours. https://www.cordbusters.co.uk/humax-aura-mysterious-freeview-glitch/

Thanks, Spikey. Yes, I'd seen that.

I updated the unit when I first got it, but will do as you suggest - redo everything from scratch, and try to force an update.

We went cheap with 2 of the manhattan SX freesat boxes, they do a freeview play version that looks identical so that might be worth looking into at sub £70 (got one at £50) if you dont record etc.

For the price weve been happy with them, the menu options are easy to follow, its handy having the same in the bedroom as only one handset to learn. The only downside (at least with the freesat models) is it takes 30 seconds to load (which seems like forever but its not I;ve timed it) when first switched on. We switch off everything at night, if you leave on standby its not going to be an issue.
