April Tariff Changes and Direct Debit Recalc

I wonder if suppliers will re-calc Direct Debits after applying the new rates from April 1st.

If they don't I can see lots of complaints from people who only focus on their DD that they haven't saved any money, and the suppliers will have more credit building up...

I doubt they have considered it yet.

I've already been sent a notice from Outfox to say they're dropping my DD by about 10%. Won't stop me from looking elsewhere when my tariff ends mid May.

If the war continues and the oil and gas prices don't drop then DDs are likely to stay the same or increase in anticipation of the energy cap moving upwards at the next review.

Which suppliers base DD amounts on predictions of future prices? And where do those predictions come from?
I know that my supplier (OVO) bases DDs solely on past consumption and current tariff rates.

Octopus have already told me mine is rising £50 (once this month DD is paid I will reduce it back to a amount that will leave a suitable balance)

Last bill £180 (gas + Electric) Balance when this months DD hits will be £360. Which is way more than 1 months usage, given lower usage incoming. 😶‍🌫️

In response to an email, Tulo Energy have replied today saying that their Pricing Team are still working on the new tariffs, coming into force on 1st April 2026. They have still not confirmed, if they will pass on the £80 (approx) saving from the abolition of green levies. They are the only UK energy supplier who haven't confirmed the reduction.

I’m with Octopus and I always set my monthly dd to the lowest amount that the app will allow. Sometimes they increase the amount and I log in and move it back down again.

Presumably this is either because you have solar/batteries and so use very little from the grid, or because you pay the balance each month using a cashback card? Just setting it as low as possible without context is a bit shaky if it is intended to be advice!

Why not call or email and ask for Monthly Variable Direct Debit? Obviously bigger bills in winter and smaller ones in summer, but you're always in full control.
