Can anyone recommend an OFF-line conveyancer
Can anyone recommend an offline conveyancer. I've had enough with massively intrusive and overly implemented digital identity checks and untrusted companies hoovering up years of bank statements.
Nothing to hide, but these companies are just a disasterous data breach waiting to happen.
I'm looking for a conveyencer that implements PG67 but not PG81. Any and all help appreciated.

Best people to ask would be your local solicitor.
They can do the checks in person.0 -
An awful lot don't now though - the requirements of the SRA, indemnity insurers etc are getting ever more onerous and more and more firms are using third party organisations to deal with the ID checks.

Oh I get that, but I'm just saying, if you're going to find one, it'll be a local one.
Certainly not a conveyancing factory.
Maybe a one-man-band or something?0 -
the other question is whether there is a mortgage involved - a lender might well insist on a level of checks beyond a passport and two proofs of address.

There is no mortgage involved.
Its not just the identity checks, they are hoovering up a huge amount of financial data and keeping it for a very long time.

"Offline" ones very likely will require the same information, they have a legal duty to do AML checks. Sure maybe you can give them hard copies if thats your thing but they will just digitise them themselves so all you are doing is adding a step in their process not changing the end point.

Actually, that would be ideal. I'm not trying to avoid any checks. Just trying to avoid documents beling stored centrally online for such a long time. It is a disaster waiting to happen.

They shouldn't be.
As part of GDPR, you have the right to be forgotten.
You write to them, you ask them what data they hold on you. You ask them to delete it.
If they don't, BIIIIIIGGGGGGGG consequences.0 -
Unless they are very old fashioned then they will be, they will retain the digital copy and shred the physical copy. Physical records storage and management is vastly more expensive than digital.

But you cannot "be forgotten" any sooner than whatever the minimum period is that the firm needs to hold the data (in order to demonstrate to the powers that be that they had it in the first place).
