They use a standard media plate with a multitude of different connections. Nothing suggests that they are all live or all prewired though.

That's exactly how our David Wilson new build was left. The sockets were wired with the roll of cable tucked away under the insulation in the loft. We had to dig around a little to find it.

No such thing as a dead spot if you want to spend more than 10 minutes researching.
There are such things as 4G and 5G boosters, that use high-gain antennas and go on your roof.

My folks live in the back end of Norfolk where the entire village had no signal.

Even the £30 ones will almost certainly work if you live within a couple of miles of an antenna.

I can understand the comments re why bother with an aerial as you can stream all the tv nowadays, however we have all had "modern technology" failing from time to time/buffering etc. its nice to have some reliable old tech to fall back on.

i havent taken the front off the sockets to see if there is a wire behind because 1 of the sockets is intergrated into a "media plate" with 4 3 pin sockets which is behind the living room wall mounted tv (i have connected an aerial lead from the tv to the socket)

the second is a separate socket about 500mm from a double socket in the bedroom.i have a Bosch live wire detector which alarms when i put it next to the aerial socket.

so my next step is to take this socket off, and as one of the replies states why would an electrician install a socket if there is no cable!!!

    thanks everyone

We moved into a new build 6 months ago. We do stream a lot of the time but also wanted old fashioned tv from the aerial.

We got a guy in to install the aerial in the loft. The first thing he did was check all the TV cable aerial sockets in each room to check that they were actually connected to cables. Apparently they often are not! Then his next check is to find the cable in the loft because it's usually hidden underneath the insulation and often not there at all!

Push for it to be installed or compensionation if it's missing. Don't rely on the Site Manager or Sales executive. Keep emailing customer care every week about this and any other snags. A paper trail is essential otherwise everyone just passes the buck.
