    I have seen two of my neighbours smart meters, one is diabolically hard to understand or work with keyboard. I do not know what brand it is but I don't want one of those.

    That sounds like a Secure Liberty,like the video below. They were used as SMETS1 meters but are no longer being fitted. You won't get one of those.

    The other neighbour that I have seen has a Toshiba and it seems more intuitive although I still did not understand the display.

    I don't think Toshiba make smart meters for the UK market, but they do make comms hubs.

    Off topic for OP - but

    So no one fitted or fits the smets2 variants - like the 116 - which used a different version of the 12 button phone like keypad ?

    I have an old 100 - its a bit of a pain to read - the keypad seems too small for my fingers - and I've got to do the 6 6 6 … to get r01/r02

    I wonder how long mines will last - as there are no nominal fixed life expectancy numbers for smart AFAIK - its a 2017 install iirc - so 8 already.

    Maybe to the 4g upgrade by 2033 iirc ?

    I don't recall anyone posting on this forum to say they have one, so if any were fitted I think they must be uncommon.

    I was intrigued because they were one of the few who offered a 7 port smets1 and then iirc an upto 7 port smets2 - but like you never read of anyone ever having one fitted.

    @Pescur

    I didn't have time when I last posted to go off and check, but I did think that when you mentioned Toshiba that it sounds like you've looked at the Comms hub which is mounted on the top of the meter as I didn't think Toshiba made any meters - something also mentioned by @QrizB and that is so, now having checked.

    When you look at the meters, look for the name/model number that is on the part that has the display. Be careful not to confuse Model numbers with serial numbers - the latter usually have the first two digits as the year of manufacture - eg. something from last year would be 25xxxxxx etc.

    The model number is usually next to/below the manufacturer's name. Common makes are Aclara, EDMI, Itron, Kaifa, Landis & Gyr

    Hope that helps.
