EE wants to increase the monthly charge

Last summer I got the full fibre, my contract with EE is Full Fibre 500 and the contract ends in July 2027. Can they just increase the monthly payment? Thanks

What do you mean by "just increase"?

There was likely something in your contract that states they can increase it in April 2026 and April 2027, and you agreed to this by signing up.

I have a similar clause on my Vodafone one, but they made this clear from the start so I am aware of this.

The contract includes an annual contract rise of £2.50-4.00 for most customers, for some it will be higher. They are increasing it as per the contract you signed up to, not randomly.

EE , like most broadband providers build in a flat fee annual price increase, in EE case £4 , regardless of taking the lowest speed available or the highest speed available, this is because the previous formula based increases (3.9% +CPI (inflation) was outlawed by the regulator.

This was pointed out when you joined and was in the contract documents you were sent, so should not be a surprise to you , and all major providers use the same kind of pricing model , some providers as well as this yearly increase contracts , also offer fixed ( for the minimum term) contracts but they cost more from the beginning , but don’t increase in Match/April .

Read your T&Cs. You did read what you signed up to, I take it?

There are big notices on the TV adverts that says price will increase to £xx.99 a month from April 2026 and £xx.yy from April 2027. Did you not see them?

Thanks for the sarcastic replies. I assumed I'd have a brief respite from constant price changes when I took a contract for two years. As reading it, it's not like I bought a property or something.

Suddenly EE started sending me not only emails but also texts to tell me there is new bill again this month too. Seems that on the website there is no way to change the contact preferences - probably would require the phone app to for it.

I just got the letter just now but had just forgotten. Yes I did sign it and was aware at the time but it still comes as a bit annoyance and defeats the whole concept of a contract.

It's the very definition of a contract. It's pointless getting annoyed at something that you sign up to with full knowledge of.

Well you did agree to price increases when you signed up, not exactly a state secret. I've just looked on the website and the first thing it tells me when I go to broadband is "no price rise until April 2027. New price from end of March 2027". Not quite sure what you're complaining about.

Providers do exist that will give you £x a month for y months and no rises but you will almost always pay more from the outset than you do at the budget end of the market though in a lot of cases you're not saving a fat lot if anything over the life of the contract.

As an example, EE do FTTP 900 for £34.99 (£38.99 from next year), Zen is £45 for the same product.
