My poor old dog

I'm really sorry to hear about your dog Goldie.
My 13 year old dog passed away last year and I found it soooo difficult.
If I was in your position I'd have her pts, as hard as it is it'd be so much easier than to see her contine suffering."Not here for a long time...just here for a good time" - Kat Von D0 -
I don't know where this came from, but I hope it helps you decide
If it should be that I grow frail and weak
and pain should keep me from my sleep,
Then you must do what must be done
For this last battle can`t be won.
You will be sad,I understand
but don`t let grief then stay your hand,
for on this day, more than all the rest,
Our love and friendship stand the test.
We`ve had so many happy years,
what is to come will hold no fears.
Now is the time, please let me go
you would not want me to suffer so.
So take me where my needs they`ll tend,
Only stay with me until the end.
Please hold me close and talk to me
Until my eyes no longer see.
We`ve been so close over all these years,
Don`t let your heart hold any tears.
From pain and suffering I`ve been saved,
and now my tail its last has waved
Please do not grieve it should you
Who must decide this thing to do.
I know in time that you will see
It is the greatest kindness you do for me.0 -
Reading your post reminded me of our 16 years old dog whom we lost recently. His health situation was very similar to your dog - good appetite, but very thin and had arthritis etc.
Speaking from our own experience with my dog, I felt the pain/suffering was greater than the pleasure of living. Although we loved him dearly but we didn't think it was right to see him suffer any further. So we had him put to sleep.
I understand how much you love your dog, but I think you know that time has come and I will be thinking of you.

just wanted to wish you strength.
this is the time that all us dog lovers dread.
you have had 15 wonderful years with your darling dog.
i think its time to give him peace and treasure your memories.
god bless you both.0 -
I know it's hard. I had my beloved dog put to sleep, aged 15, a few years ago. I asked the vet 'what would you do if this was your dog'. First time he said she's not suffering, I'd keep going, then 2 weeks later my dog just looked at me, so miserable, i took her back to vet and he agreed it was time. Sometimes you need to ask someone because it clarifies the situation for you. We love our dogs but they depend on us for decisions sometimes.
Thinking of you0
