How much of the £8k in your S&S ISA have you deposited since 6th April 2026?
To be clear you are not allowed to exceed your £20k allowance at any time.

I think that's clearer now - I was under the impression that you wanted to rebalance your ISAs by preference, to optimise what is in each, but it now appears that you've exceeded your annual contribution allowance and are looking to correct that in order to stay legal.
ISA reporting to HMRC is annual, after the year end, and a flexible ISA is reported on the basis of net contribution, i.e. deposits minus withdrawals, so if you deposited £8K and later in the same tax year withdrew £4K then this will indeed be reported as £4K of net 2026/27 contributions. Technically you're currently breaching the rules if you have more than £20K of current year money across your ISAs, but it's unlikely to be an issue, even if discovered…

@masonic and @eskbanker thank you very much. I've checked again this morning after reading your posts. One thing clear as masonic says - no exceed of total 20K allowance at any time. This is a very helpful note for me to check and confirm.
As eskbanker says it may not be an issue if at the year end my total is still 20K. On one platform they may not discover easily that I at one point exceed by 4K across all platforms, but yes this is still risky so I'll need to do a fix to make sure total ISAs input this year at any point from now onward to year end is within 20K.
Thank you both.

PS: i understand that let's say for the time-frame that exceed by 4K in S&S ISA if there's any profit it will be treated as "not in ISA", yet the profit is not likely to be over the 3.5K capital gain allowance so it should be fine on paper. Yet it's best not to cause this issue by moving the 4K to a standard S&S account.

The annual CGT 0% allowance is £3,000.
