Any help appreciated.

Came back from work and this pole has been put up in my private garden, no idea who did it or what it is?

    Could be brsk, they have a bad reputation here for installing poles without the correct authority.

    Could it be some sort of bird box with the box missing atop? the top ring to hold onto when cleaning it?

    Subscribing to the thread. I had something similar with Openreach, and 'sorting it out' took well over a year.

    It was more than 10 years ago, so they may have improved, but communication was laughable for a communications company. Their excuse then was, "We are not “customer-facing."

    PS. I still have the pole. They make great heavy-duty gate posts! 😈

    @bigbill

    If the pole does belong to Openreach as you suspect, go onto their website and fill in "Objection to new or recent pole form" You should get a reply within so many working days.

    As a back up and way of progessing the issue try and get in touch with their Plant Protection Officer for your area, they usually are on the ball when it comes to issues like this.

    You may also wish to staple a notice onto the pole stating that it is on private land and no equipment is to be installed on it, incase there are some eager installers going to use it before issue is settled and pole moved to correct position.

    And don't forget to contact your local press.

    They love these situations, and you may find your are not the only one affected by Openreach's arrogant behaviour.

    It's not a pristine front garden though, is it? Assuming it is the OP's land, how have they distinguished it from what looks like open common, with obvious footpaths across it? This is the position in the countryside, where it's often unclear who owns a hedgerow or verge. Utilities erect new poles in those situations every day, and I doubt their surveyors go to the Land Registry each time.

    'Arrogance' isn't proven yet, or that anything unusual has happened. However, if that pole is to move, now is the best time to negotiate.
