Council parking fine - any grounds for appeal?

“Parking in a residents’ or shared use parking place without clearly displaying a valid permit.”

These are Google streetview pics. I parked in the spot where the grey Seat hatchback is for 15-20 minutes and came back to a fine for parking in a resident permit only space.

When you enter the road, the first thing that comes up on the right is a marked bay for two cars with a Residents permit only board, and then a separate (at least that's what it looked like to me!) single parking bay with a 'P' board next to it, no restrictions or timings noted on it.

I parked in the bay with the 'P' board. I'll be honest I have no idea what P (it could mean PERMIT tbh) on its own means but just took the absence of any explicit restrictions to be just that.

Completely happy to accept that there's no way out of this but just thought I'd check anyways.
