Is there any definitive advice as to whether UK insurance companies will or won’t claim Force Majeure?

Not sure there'll be a clear agreed position adopted industry-wide, but the key question for you is presumably whether your insurer is citing force majeure, rather than what others are doing? What does your policy say in the relevant section, and in particular is there an exclusion for acts of war?

Qatar are difficult at customer services, even though their flying product is excellent. I'd be looking to get back via singapore or somewhere outside the middle east.

edreams, that bunch of spanish !!!!!! that say a lot…..but do next to nothing. So flights back, Kolkata to LHR via Dubai. Sat week started to kick off, we knew it would be trouble and then all flights sunday off. We managed an extension at our hotel for 3 days, but the T20 cricket was there and Kolkata was full. Sunday of course edreams decided not to do anything, contact no one….monday…still nothing, tuesday….we had to get out of KK so flew to Goa, cheaper and it has a beach!. Email from edreams….errr hi, whats the matter. Errrr how about reading the dozen emails I have sent, of course you cant call them…they dont want that. What are you going to do. Errrr OK contact the airline and rebook a flight….NOPE thats your job, book me on the next available flights out. Errrrrr we'll get back to you in 24/48 hours. NOTHING for 8 days.IN that time I booked return flights with the original carrier, Emirates and arrived this morning. Still nothing from edreams except a generic email which others have got and drivel….."we are working with airilnes " etc BS…..If I can get a flight, why cant they??? What will I get back…maybe a refund from the original cancelled flight, via edreams.

What a shower of !!!!!! they are

  • Hello,

I have a Qatar Airways return flight to Kathmandu via Doha from the 23rd March. Qatar have currently emailed to say I would be eligible for a refund and I can request this if I cancel my trip. Am I correct in saying if I do this now, I will incur fees for cancelling the trip according to the fare rules whereas if they cancel the flight later on, I'm entitled to the full refund? I'm wondering whether to wait until they have cancelled the flight instead.

    Thanks in advance!

Why not seek clarification from the airline as to the level of refund they will provide if you agree to cancel the trip now?

If you wait until the airline cancels the flight, what will you do if the flight is not cancelled?

Hi everyone - I'm currently in Chennai - my return flight was cancelled by Etihad as I missed my departure, yes i know it's the 1st time in my life, story for another day (I flew out before the conflict started), - i only found out my return leg was cancelled when I logged in to check my flights. At the airport the staff member told me to just book a 1 way flight since I missed my departure - but failed to tell me that my return leg would be cancelled, bad I known i would have booked a return. I didn't know this, as this is the 1st time I've missed a flight (in hindsight maybe it was a sign?!) Anyhow I paid £360 for a 1way ticket to Chennai - now I'm struggling to get my return flight due to the conflict as I have to fly via middle east- any flights available via other routes are over £1k :-( - will I get any coverage for this from my travel insurance?

I can't see travel insurance helping here.

Did you get a refund for the unused return flight?

I also doubt travel insurance will cover any issues via Middle East as you would be booking once issues are known.

I'd suffer the £1k hit. There have been anecdotal reports of people facing much greater costs than that.

Well when I booked a return ticket it was well before the conflict happened so it wasn't known at the time of booking. Airline cancelled my return due to missed departure, thats the only reason im rebooking now.

Expedia Refunded me, so I've paid £360 so far for the single outbound ticket I purchased at the airport.

I've seen there are people still flying through abu dhabi and dubai but I guess it would be a risk.

  • Hi we are due to fly with Etihad on 1st April from Manchester to Kuala Lumpur with a connection in Abu Dhabi my flight times have been changed from morning 08:25 to evening 20:45 departure. Is it best to accept these changes and wait it out to see if flights are cancelled. Would this affect any refunds?Concerned we may get stranded. We are also due to fly back with Eithad from Kochi, India on the 21 April to Manchester with a connection in Abu Dhabi have had no information about these flights yet. This is 40th wedding anniversary
