Get a blow torch? Even one of those (bit naff) kitchen ones would do.

All gas hobs sold since 2010 have to have a safety cut out, if the flame blows out.

Yes of course the pan supports are removable and can be cleaned. Are they "easy" to clean? I suppose that depends on what you're comparing them to. But compared to doing nothing at all, cleaning them is decidedly difficult.
Which is easier, putting four pan supports in the sink and giving them a good soak and scrub, or not doing that? 🙂
