If you are new to variable DD then you also need to ensure that you budget for this. With luck you will only have one high "winter" bill before use drops going into summer, so you have actually switched at a good time. Going forward though, no matter how low your monthly bill is over the coming months, I would budget £100 at least, ensuring that any surplus from that when the DD is taken for the bill is ring-fenced into a savings account ready for October onwards when use (and so cost) will increase. That should ensure that you naturally have your own personal "credit balance" heading into winter.

Thanks for this. Yes I am new to variable DD. So you just pay for what you use that month?

I can see this month is forecast £106. Then April is forecast £39.

Yes, you just pay each month for what you use, so use more, pay more. It can mean winter bills two or three times higher than summer bills, so as EH says you need to be good at budgeting or have enough money not to be bothered by the fluctuations.

I would ignore the April prediction for now, the system will be applying a basic "April = 50% of February", it does not have enough months of data to correctly estimate future months.

Open an easy access savings account with your bank and pay in a little more than one twelfth of your annual bill monthly. Then when you get your bill move the amount over to your current account ready to be taken on the date specified.
