If it worked when you first got it, then a factory reset may be the answer.
If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.0 -
If it's a faulty firmware it would probably be all over somewhere like reddit by now or other forums. Google it and see if others have had a problem and look for a solution. Try posting in a sound/vision forum as it's possible it may be an obvious solution just like a slight settings change you've overlooked.

Have you tried?

Yes I'm aware of that, there is many people having the same issue.
The primary concern is the lack of assistance from Philips customer service, which remains unresolved despite the submission of a formal letter.
So the question is, what are my consumer or legal rights regards this matter?

Yes, problem not resolved.

you don't have much in the way of rights. The retailer didn't break it. You have no contract with Philips.

The forced Philips Sound app update bricked my soundbar. Why am I being held responsible for a software error that wasn't my fault?

You're not being held responsible as such, but it's just that you don't have statutory consumer rights that allow you to hold anyone else liable, although there might be other legislation that applies (nothing known to me though).

Could I pursue a case in small claims court if I can demonstrate that Philips' firmware/software caused my unit to fail?

Who would you pursue and on what specific legal basis?
