Adult disability payment

Quick question.Husband recently had a massive heart attack and 2 cardiac arrests. He has been diagnosed with Coronary artery disease ,recently had cancer twice.

His critical illness company paid out as it was obviously critical as his heart stopped several times .We were advised to apply for Adult Disability Payment as we live in Scotland .Never applied for benefits before as always worked and we thought fairly fit .

The decision came back as zero points for every thing ,which I was surprised at despite the amount of medication he is now on and will be for life and the fact that the cardiologist fitted 2 stents .We were told the condition can't be reversed ,no cure and significantly shortens life .

So surprised ADP gave him zero points as this has changed his whole life and will continue to do so.

I have asked for a reconsideration.

Just wanted some thoughts

Did you fill it in yourselves? I would take the MR to a benefits expert and ask them to help.

Unfortunately I did fill it in .

I have now got fight back 4 justice involved and a disability forum who I have now paid to complete the form on my behalf.

I answered some of the questions with a no,such as I don't want contacted via email which I thought was ok ,then they sent my original form back to me saying questions not answered

.I thought that when I said I don't want email why would I have to fill in my email details .

He was only in hospital a few days after his stent and apparently they have based their decision on that

.No other health assesmen,t nor contacted the gp

.So now I have given the disability people access to his g p

.I have power of attorney . Prob naive, just thought maybe they would see seriousness of the condition and award ADP

I HAVE A LOT TO LEARN.

    Thankyou Freesha.

I wanted to go to CAB or local welfare people but their waiting lists are long and welfare rights place is closing .They don't make it easy do they.

ADP isn't awarded based on diagnosis or amount of medication, but in having care needs and mobility being affected. Did you have a look at the descriptors and understand how it's assessed before filling in the form?

When you say he recently had a cardiac event, how recently? Because to qualify for ADP, he needs to have had the support neefs for three months and to expect it to last for another 9 months.
Just wondering if that might also be a factor?

All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

Aside from benefits, have you discovered ‘Pumping Marvellous’? An amazing website, brilliant, up to date (unlike Dr. Google) resource for folk affected by heart disease. They also have a closed Facebook page which is very closely moderated so no nonsense gets through. It’s very supportive and friendly, folk share their experiences and support each other through tough times, sleepless nights and anxiety inducing procedures.
