Prime Video Purchase Options??
So I just noticed this week that You Tube offer movies either free with ads or £3.50 without ads, then, maybe by coincidence, I'm watching a movie tonight "Arrival" Sci-Fi on Prime video free with ads. I brought the "other ways to purchase", which included:
Rent for £3.50 (which I assume means ad-free)
Go Ad Free for £2.99 or month (which also means ad-free, but for the month)
This seems to imply that all movies that are normally £3.50 to watch, will also be free if you go 'ad free' for £2.99 per month
What's happening here??

Confusing combination of mentions of Prime Video (which is from Amazon) and YouTube (which is from Google).
I am going to assume that the references to YouTube are a mistake.Prime Video works in 2 ways:
- As a purchase / rental service for a large range of films and programs.
- As a subscription service for a smaller range of films and programs.
If you have Amazon Prime, you get 2, but by default this includes adverts. You can pay £2.99/month extra for "Prime Video Ad Free" to avoid the adverts in the films and programs included with Amazon Prime.
Regardless of whether you have Amazon Prime or not, you can also buy or rent films or movies (point 1) and if you do this they don't generally include adverts. This is the £3.49 rental option you are seeing for Arrival.
Re "This seems to imply that all movies that are normally £3.50 to watch, will also be free if you go 'ad free' for £2.99 per month" - no. If a movie is not "Included with Prime" (as Arrival currently is) then it won't be free just because you've paid the £2.99 extra for "Prime Video Ad Free".

U-Tube movies are very limited with "Free with adds" & cover no where near as many as U-Tube. You can purchase films on U-Tube (used be be via play store) but not always cheap.

So if Arrival is free with Prime, why are they offering me a chance to rent it for £3.50??? I think I'm just gonna pay £2.99 for the month and find out

That £2.99 is on top of whatever you're paying for Prime TV, the rental price is for people who don't pay a monthly Prime fee.
