Paying for Wake and Funeral
We are dealing with my recently deceased uncles estate etc.. He has a substantial bank balance and the bank have already said that they release funds for the funeral/wake/ flowers.
My question is how do I go about paying for the above? Do we need to pay first and claim it back or are the bank just billed direct?
Sorry if its a daft question but have no idea.

Ask funeral director to bill bank direct with their bank account details.
They should be well used to the process.

It may vary from bank to bank, but if my experience was anything to go by, do NOT pay it yourself - the bank is not likely to allow you to be paid until after probate is complete. As already said, the payment needs to go directly to the funeral director.

Banks will usually pat the FD directly but that won’t cover the wake or flowers.

The bank - HSBC did say they will pay for the wake and flowers too. Well, thats what the person told me when I took the death cert in.

Take the invoice to the bank with the Funeral Directors bank details, with your Uncles bank account details and death certificate. They will probably then make payment direct to the Funeral Director.

Maybe ask HSBC what they require in order to release the money for the flowers and wake?
(You can often arrange the flowers throughout the Funeral Director)

For my husband’s funeral the funeral director organised everything except the flowers.

Sorry for your loss. I paid for flowers and the wake on my credit card. I took the receipts and my credit card bill to halifax and they transferred funds to me. I took the funeral invoice to them which included bank details and they paid it directly to the funeral director
