Warning to all Three broadband subscribers
I don't know if MoneySavingExpert intend to offer any more broadband deals from Three, but as a courtesy I would like to warn you that they frequently do not deliver the deal that they offer. Furthermore, they ignore complaints and continue to withdraw money from your account by direct debit - even though the amount is more than they promised.
I am currently in dispute with Three and will probably have to apply to the ombudsman to get any kind of response. Were it not for the fact that I would be left without internet access, I would have simply pulled the plug.
Anyone else have experience of this dreadful company?

We're currently using Three 5g data for my home broadband and very happy with it.
I use an old phone as a modem, never been overcharged.
Decent prepaid unlimited data sim deal (equiv £6.45/month) here:

That's very interesting. Thank you for that.
How do use the phone as a modem? Do you have to dial up everytime you want to use the internet - and how to connect to your computer.

Look for an option in your phone settings, usually under 'network', called 'hotspot'. Enabling this creates a wi-fi network that you connect other devices to just like any other router. Limitations include limited number of devices can connect at the same time, limited wi-fi range and it is heavy on the phone battery usage.
The hotspot will stay active until you turn it off, or if you set it to turn off if there are no connections active

Never had any problems with 3.
Just keep yourself right and all the paperwork in order and move things correctly to the ombudsman. 3 like most companies probably have some sort of intervention people at the last minute. I know that from experience with Vodafone.
It's likely 3 make no or very little money from your contract so don't expect too much.
Just remember the ombudsman will not be your friend.

No need for me to touch the phone at all (its actually permanently mounted high up in my loft) running 24/7 and connected by 'USB tethering' rather than 'Hotspot' (in order to avoid the limitations of hotspot as described by @flashg67 above).
The phone is managed by an Asus router located in an upstairs bedroom and this keeps the phone charged as well. The router usually connects at least other 27 devices.
I haven't even had sight of the phone for over 8 months now - it just works.
Speed is about 130/30 Mbps (less at peak times).
