Dumb Smart Phone for travelling in Italy
Hope this is the correct forum.
We'll be visiting Rome and Venice in April and obviously have heard of all the pickpockets etc.
Thinking of ways to minimise disruption if the worst happens. Our current smart phones have all our train tickets/banking etc on them so keen to keep those out of sight and tethered inside our bags as much as possible.
However we know we'll use Apple Maps in both locations and contactless payments in Rome Metro.
We have some old handsets, I'm thinking: take one back to factory settings, (use a different email address) buy a PAYG Europe Sim and just use that for Maps, photos (then Airdrop later) and use a prepaid Sainsbury bank card for tap on the Metro.
Is this idea feasible baring in mind my limited IT skills?
Thanks in advance for any insight.

There is a free mapping app called Organic Maps. The App doesn’t use mobile data. Basically it works by pre-downloading the maps you require, even then they aren’t a huge size to download. You can mark your hotel, where you got off the bus/parked your car, etc. Map detail varies depending on country, in parts of Spain it even shows the outline of each villa pool.
I guess it will install on pretty much any smart phone.
