Remember you are in work for most of your waking hours in the week; provided it is still one where you don't get full enjoyment rather than hating the place and getting nauseous at the idea of going there then that is ok. If it gets worse, get out to something else even if the MF date would go back a while as there will potentially be other damage which may not be obvious to you (I learned this very early on once graduated and have held to "money isn't everything" since but it is still very important!)0 -
I seconds Stuart's comments, here's hoping it was just a one off. I switched jobs last year and dropped around 3k, never been happier (apart from payday  ).
It's worth working out the sums and deciding what is most important to you. You may decide to stick at current job because MF is more important - but just sorting out the facts, figures and options will give you a feeling of empowerment - i.e. you are CHOOSING to stay there rather than HAVING to. I know from experience what a difference that realisation can bring :T .A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effortMortgage Balance = £0

Hi everybody,
I just thought I would provide you with a quick update. We haven't yet got to £3,000 for this year, but that is simply because we have both been so busy at work that there has been no time for thinking about money-related matters (and, conversely, no time for spending it either!)
I am planning on calling our mortgage provider tomorrow to check that I can make an OP by debit card over the phone and not incur any costs for doing so (I am with C&G - if anyone can offer any guidance on this I would greatly appreciate it). At the same time, I will increase our OP from January to £450 per month (currently £200).
I was tinkering around with the overpayment calculators, and to pay off the mortgage in 5 years (my dream) we need to overpay by £1100 a month, which will mean a further £650 a month on top of the £450 we plan to overpay by  ! Clearly this is not something that we can do, but I am aiming to squirrel bits of cash away to get as flippin' close as I can.
I am feeling hugely positive about all things MFW - thanks again to all your fabulous people for the contined inspiration xxMFW

Hi ATB
I'm with C&G and although I would recommend calling them just to check your own terms and conditions I make my OP's on-line via internet banking. When I first called them to look into it they told me that I could make OP's in the branch or on-line for free but a lump sum (later defined as more than £1000) by cheque would incur a £10 processing fee and I've seen other threads where people have incurred the £10 OP by cheque fee.

Hi abouttimetoo, thanks for the message.
Can I just query how you make your payments through online banking? I didn't even know you could make OPs that way and am getting quite excited at the prospect, as it will make overpaying as and when I have a bit of spare cash far easier.

Hi again
When you ring C&G just ask them what ther bank details (sort code and account number) are and which number you should use in the reference field - this is very probably your mortgage account number. All you need to do then is set it up on your internet banking in the same way you migh pay other bills and send the money.
I don't know if you have more than one part to your mortgage (I have two - repayment and interest only) if you have more than one then they will be known as sub account 01, 02 etc etc so if you want you can then set up two on-line payments - I was told to add 01 or 02 to the end of my reference number when I set it up and then in this way I can direct my overpayments to whichever part of the mortgage I feel like:D
Good luck, let me know how you get on - they are open this morning until 2pm I think!MFW Start Date 1.4.08. Updated 23.1.18. MFW date 1.8.18

Ooooh thanks abouttimetoo! Unfortunately I have left it too late it the day to call them today (Christmas films are so distracting
) but I will give them a call first thing on Monday to ask them about this. I would want my overpayments to go straight onto the capital part of the mortgage, which I guess is sub-account one, but I will ask them to confirm on Monday.
Thanks again, have a great weekend! xMFW

Hi, my OH made a lumpsum overpayment yeasterday, and indeed it cost us £10. Interesting to note is if he hadn't said he'd pay the £10 they would've added it to the mortgage!!! The other thing he was told is that we can reduce the term of the repayment part, but not of the interest only. Regular overpayments are not subject to the charge.
all the best

Hi everyone
I hope you all had a splendid Christmas. Well, I called C&G and increased our OP to £400 - my aim had been £450 but I want to see how things pan out for the first couple of months of 2009, and then maybe increase it in February time.
I have called the C&G this morning and obtained the details that I need to make my OPs online, which will make things far easier to overpay on an 'as and when we have some spare cash' basis. The five year dream I mentioned above would need an additional OP of £700 per month, being £8400 extra a year! So I don't think it is wholly feasable, although it sounds great in theory. I think that if I just keep paying off small chunks as well as the standard OP on a regular basis I could get some way near this, but maybe not quite reach it.
Apologies for a slightly rambling post - I am typing as I am thinking!x
