As a hobby I tinker with thin clients and Linux.

It used to be that when you hit a snag you Googled and found numerous copy/paste posts, often incorrect.

Sort one problem, next problem, start Googling again.

I've started using Gemini, it gives me an answer, I try it, if there's a problem, I can throw it right back and get an instant response and so on.

It's become a lot easier solving problems now that I don't have to trawl obscure and out of date forums.

    Move along, nothing to see.

I used Chat GPT to assess whether Santa Claus is fit.

Turns out he is, what with lifting all those presents, the immense distance he covers on foot to deliver them (even allowing for the Reindeer taking a lot of the mileage strain) plus the excessive number of pull-ups completed to exit all those chimneys.

Apparently, he is only on the plump side when we see him in the shopping centre in November and December because that is his carb-loading phase. By Christmas Day, he is totally shredded, not to mention somewhat knackered.

90% of the questions posted on this forum can be solved by any of the LLMs. It's one reason why most of the forum posts are now either seeking reassurance about what laptop to buy or from people who are averse to AI for whatever personal reasons.

Back to the AI theme… I composed a set of instructions for Python code to create a web page enabled remote relay switch using a Raspberry Pi and a hat with 6 relays. The instructions were copy and pasted into 4 different AI sites, a Chinese one, Gemini, ChatGPT and Claude.

A few months ago with similar input ChatGPT made a mess of creating the code, Claude produced working code first go. Move forward to recent times and all four produced working code first go. The difference was that Gemini was far quicker than the other three. None had a "pretty" a web page compared to my first attempt a few months ago with Claude, but nevertheless they all worked.

My "go to" for coding tends to be Claude, I have input several partly completed Arduino "sketches" for bug fixing and minor tweaks and Claude gets the results… not always first time, but it stores the file and will make alterations when you next connect and explain the error/issue. I have tried the same with ChatGPT and give up as it just does not seem to understand coding in the way Claude does.

On a positive note for ChatGPT, it is OK for basic questions and sometimes gives funny answers to "why do elephants paint their toe nails red" etc, but for coding forget ChatGPT.

To me, ChatGPT seems appalling for getting information. If I ask about anything for which I have a fair amount of knowledge, it is always wrong. Not sometimes - always. So I don't ask it about stuff for which I don't a lot about, which seems to defeat the object.
