Virgin Media help - disconnection coming up .. Social Tariff fast enough ?

A bit of advice please , currently paying £29 for 120mbps phoned up Virgin who said the best the could do would be 250gb reduced to £24 then increase to £27 in April then again next year on a 24 month contract.

I put in the 30day request and the disconnection date i the 4th of March hoping that they would get back to me with a better deal but nothing yet and panicking a bit .

The account is in my dads name ( 20 odd years ) but I pay the bills , would I be able to sign up now as a new customer in my name with a start date of the 4th of march or would this flag up on the system ?

The other option is the social tarriff as my dad is on pension credit , he streams alot during the day and relys on whatsapp and not too sure if the 15Mbps Fibre Broadband ( £12 ) or 54mps ( £20 ) will be fast enough plus I use it for work while at home on the weekends - the benefit of these is that he does not have to tie in for 24months .

You could try switching him to their 54Mbps social tariff. It's probably sufficient for any streaming he does and if your work needs are primarily email, should cover that adequately. It will be a monthly rolling contract, so easy to leave if it doesn't work out. Just make sure you cancel the cancellation if going that route!

There is an obsession these days with faster and faster broadband.

15M is perfectly fine for one person streaming HD video all day. Maybe you need to go up one step for 4K video.

You should equally have no problem working from home on a 15M service unless your work requires transferring large files around.

    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.
  • Thanks , do you think think it is too late for them to phone up with a better offer just dont want to leave it too late in case he is with the internet.

Check that the account has correct contact details and that it gives marketing consent.

IME, and from other's experiences, they contact you fairly quickly after you give notice. Just phone them (or get the account holder to) and ask about going onto their social tariff instead of cancelling.
