Car Finance Claim email from Benson Goldstein
I used the Money Saving Expert (MSE) free car finance unfair commission tool to draft a letter which I sent to my car finance provider MotoNovo Finance. Motonovo Finance have replied acknowledging the complaint.
Recently I have received the email below from a claims company “Benson Goldstein”. I am a bit confused as I have never contacted this company to represent my claim. As far as I know I have never contacted a claims company. I have only used the MSE claims tool to email MotoNovo Finance direct.
Benson Goldstein appears to operate on a no win no fee basis. The email does not ask me to provide any additional information, but they do appear to have already obtained my car finance agreement number and start date from somewhere.
I am just a bit confused about this and what I need to do. Does this claim replace the one direct with MotoNovo Finance? I would rather not engage the services of no win no fee company if I don’t have to.
Copy of email:
Thank you for submitting your claim.
We’ve received all the necessary details from you and we will now be drafting the necessary paperwork to submit your claim to Motonovo Finance Limited T/A Motonovo Finance.
We will update you again once we have sent the claim on your behalf.
As a reminder, your claim is being pursued on a no-win-no-fee basis. This means that you will never be asked to pay any fees upfront and you will not have to pay us anything if the claim is unsuccessful.
We will simply deduct our fees from any compensation awarded. Assuming court proceedings are not necessary then we will charge a maximum rate of 30% plus VAT, meaning you always receive more than our fees and will never be left out of pocket.
We are specialist solicitors in the sector and we will always ensure that you receive the maximum amount of compensation, as quickly as possible. A copy of our terms and conditions is available here: https://www.bensongoldstein.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/BG-Terms-and-Conditions.pdf
Yours sincerely
Benson Goldstein

Absolutely nothing needs to be done as they are cold marketing you.
It's possible you've signed up for a mailing list after entering car claim details (even if you didn't proceed). Sometimes employees sell information unlawfully.
It will not have come from MSE or Motnovo.

Have you ever completed any online questionnaires or surveys to assess your claim? These are often a back door for these firms to get involved...

Thanks for your replies and sorry for the delay in responding, I was asked to change my username which took a couple of days. As far as I know I have not responded to any requests/notifications to a claims service. Prior to the email from Benson Goldstein I had never heard of them. I actually dragged my feet on looking into this Car Finance issue. It was only after watching the Martin’s MSE TV programme that focused on Car Finance and mentioned his free online template did I decide to pursue it via this process.
I have today had another email from Benson Goldstein as follows:
We can confirm that a complaint has now been sent to Motonovo Finance Limited T/A Motonovo Finance.
We are now making enquiries to establish whether your finance agreement was mis-sold.
Ordinarily the lender would now have 8 weeks to respond to your complaint, however the Financial Conduct Authority introduced new rules which entitled lenders to place claims on hold until 31 May 2026.
This means that your claim will likely be placed on hold by the lender for quite some time. The good news is that your claim will be nearer the front of the queue when lenders start to respond again.
We will let you know in due course if the lender will be placing this particular claim on hold. If your claim is disputed, then we will also be in touch to advise you on how best to proceed.
Yours sincerely
Benson Goldstein
Bit strange as I have already contacted MotoNovo using the MSE template email. Should I just ignore these emails from Benson Goldstein? I don’t want them to pursue my claim and get a cut of any pay out. There email above seems to imply that they WILL be pursuing my claim even though as far as I know I have not explicitly told them to do this? Should I contact them to see where they got my details from and why they think they are pursuing my claim? For info their emails do not include any contact information like a phone number. I don’t want to open a can of worms by contacting them if possible but I am getting a bit worried about what is going on.

You would have to have entered into a contract with them for that to happen.
Should I contact them to see where they got my details from and why they think they are pursuing my claim?
Probably worth it given the repeat message. Tell them that you have never employed them to do this and ask them how they got your details and to cease.

I contacted Benson Goldstein and they sent the email below saying they have closed my claim. Hopefully this will have no impact on my direct claim with MotoNovo.
We can confirm that your claim against Motonovo Finance Limited T/A Motonovo Finance is now Closed.
We understand that you no longer wish to make a claim. As such we confirm that your file has now been closed and of course there will be no charge to you whatsoever.
If you change your mind at a later date and wish to re-open the file, then please do not hesitate to let us know.

A good outcome, was expecting the £200-£300 bill for work done to date.
