Octopus Energy Fixed Ending 8th April
Hi All
We are FTBers so new to all this and coming to the end of our first year with Octopus energy. The fixed rate tariff ends on the 8th April. Is it better to wait until 1st April to shop round for the best deal for the next year or look around now

Which octopus tariff are you on?

As that tariff has no early exit fees, you can leave at any time without penalty. It doesn't look particularly cost attractive compared to suppliers/tariffs available today (orn indeed at times in the past)
Are you a member of the MSE Cheap Energy Club? If not, definitely worth becoming one. If you are, have a look to see what is currently on offer (although you have very recently missed out on some very attractive offerings)

Even if it had an exit fee, it no longer applies because you're within the 49-day window.
If you can find a cheaper tariff without an exit fee, switch immediately. You can always switch again if something better turns up after 1st April. Otherwise wait and see.
Many Octopus fixed tariffs have no exit fee. If you find one and it's cheaper, phone them and you'll probably be on it today.

Unfortunately, Octopus Fixed Rate tariffs are not looking particularly attractive at present, according to this thread being diligently maintained by @Lorian
Hence my suggestion to use a comparison site such as the CEC. The CEC also gives details of reductions (even for existing fixed rate tariffs) expected in April due to the budget

Check the Octopus fixed rate tariff thread. Feb V6 is lower but it doesn't mean its necessarily better for you or indeed better than shopping around

Octopus today released their 12M Fixed Feb 2026 v6 tariff, which is much more attractive than the previous one. With no exit fee, there is not much reason not to switch to it.

You mean apart from the possibility of grabbing an even cheaper tariff elsewhere?

So general consensus is switch now rather than wait til April?

If you can find a tariff that's cheaper than your current fix, with no exit fee, it would be madness to continue paying more than you need to until the end of April.
I've not checked myself but others in this thread seem to think that Octopus's current fix will save you money.
