The Chinese seem to be ahead of the game with CATL having batteries that can deliver over 400W/kg energy density, support at least 10,000 full charging cycles (2.5 million mile lifetime), not using lithium and half the price in full-scale production (eventually).
What the media fails to grasp is that we're not talking about one battery technology but four or five - so you'll see applications for cars, trucks, rail, static batteries etc where different technologies give very specific benefits.
It's like the project management triad - good, fast, cheap - pick two, you can't have the third.

is this instead of your motability car with a large boot?
3 -
Motability site carries the size of all boots for cars avaiable.

Of course I meant affordable solid state batteries for consumer use. Which to my knowledge are not in any EVs yet. But it can apply to any of the advanced/in R&D phase batteries. We are yet to know how good they'll be, how light, and if they're affordable and sustainable to make. For the time being, the current type of batteries are far more suited to SUVs or commercial vehicles that can saddle the size and weight of them

Not really.
It's far from unusual for a modern four-door four-seat supermini to have a 200 mile range from a 45kWh battery, in a complete package that weighs less than 1,200kg - only about 100kg heavier than a modern petrol MX5, and the same length (~4m).
And before you say "But a Lotus Elise is 700kg!" remember that even late Elises got up to about 950kg…0 -
The Tesla was based on a Lotus Elise.
They had one (not for sale) in their showroom at Westfield shopping centre last year.

Mine does when I get into it!

Except that the batteries & motor will weigh far less that the engine, gearbox, fluids & transmission did.
Electric classic cars has a couple of vids on just this Free 928 is a good guide.

Chinese are ahead of the game because they have more fake social media accounts posting lies? These fake stories
are then often seem to attract large institutions that you think should know better.
How does a fake news article get repeated by top US institutions with zero fact checking and zero actual evidence of the actual truth?Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
Check the weight of an electric car where they also have a petrol model and you will probably find the petrol one is lighter
assuming they have the exact same specs. Hard to beat efficiency in a battery when compared to the weight of a gallon
of fuel.
Compare a Tesla Model 3 with with a similar sized vehicle with a 2L diesel engine and they will weigh similar amounts
but the diesel vehicle will double the range between stops.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0
