Small Electric Sports Car

I am waiting for someone (probably Chinese) to produce a small (basic) 2 seater open top sports car (like the Midget/MR2) with a decent range and reasonable price - powered by electricity - then I will willingly convert….

If I was half as smart as I think I am - I'd be twice as smart as I REALLY am.

Here you go - someone was making them over 10 years ago.

Might not meet your range or budget requirements though.

I thought you were unable to use an electric car because a disability prevented you from charging it?
I can't image a 2 seater sports car will be any easier for you.

But yeah, there's a bit of a gap in the small sports car range at the moment. There's loads of bigger sporty cars though.

The closest to something like a Midget/MR2 at the moment in the UK seems to be the Fiat Abarth 500e https://www.abarth.com/new-abarth-electric-500e

Though you can get plenty of boring looking EV's that are faster than many sports cars, albeit not as fun in the corners. The top spec Volkswagen ID.4 SUV can hit 62mph in 5.4 seconds which is insane for a school run mobile.

Unless you are happy with 50 miles useable range when driving with spirit, the weight of batteries will always work against a fun electric sports car.

The Tesla achieves huge torque and good range, but if you look at the size of the battery it is pretty much the same length as the wheelbase. You can't fit all of that in a light sportscar without considerable expense. Hence the cars linked to above are out of most people's reach.

Apparently sold state batteries are safer and more efficient, and last longer. But it will be at least 5 years before any of them are mass produced (that's just my guess). And they won't be hugely more effecient, to the extent that the battery could occupy the space of a 2L petrol engine

Solid state batteries have been around for YEARS!. They use them in space and other applications where they need long life
but the downside is that they output a very small current.

They can also suffer from dendrite growth so they are not safer than some current batteries. Strange that a couple of fake news
articles started all the hype that they will be here very very soon and power a car for years on a single charge type nonsense.

It's like Tesla's fake news of getting 50% extra capacity from it's new batteries, they skipped the important fact that the
new batteries had 50% more storage capacity because of the simple fact that they were 50% BIGGER!

They have the means to build better batteries now. Use the slightly less efficient chemistries and restrict the battery output
and charge rate but then they don't seem a great deal.

Lots of Chinese news of being able to 'fully' charge a car in 5 minutes, they then wheel out a diesel generator not much smaller
than a bungalow and charge from 20% to 60% or maybe even 80% with firetrucks on standby. They forget to mention that a
single vehicle can be charged at that rate from the massive diesel generator. I wonder how many of the bosses would be
happy to be locked in the cars whilst charging at those rates over and over
