How long would a full cycle be? I can keep it there longer. I have savings (not hugely healthy). I was looking at ways for my money not to depreciate through only savings and I'm prepared to take a risk for this. I thought I could invest in a S&S ISA and pick a ready made selection, but maybe I've misunderstood. Thanks for taking the time to reply.

Thanks. That's what i was hoping to do- are these 'basket' the same as ready made investments (these are the only ones I can find on the HL website)? I appreciate your response.

Great. This is what I am looking for. Is this a ready made track the market? 👍️

This is exactly what I'm doing- overthinking and overanalysing as its new to me- and even with reading and research I am a little overwhelmed. And you are right, I just want to get started and only check it periodically. It all feels a little complicated, so I'll have a look at Monevater site. Thanks for the tip.

There are many different types of investment funds. Some own shares in many companies and some specialize in bonds and others in things like gold and silver etc etc. The list goes on. Funds might track a particular market like the US total stock market of over 3000 companies, or geographical areas or type of company or bond. Your best bet is to buy a "fund of funds". This is a fund that owns other funds so you get a great diversity in your assets. The Vanguard LifeStrategy series of funds is one to research. There are a number of choices with different ratios of stocks and bonds…more stocks generally means they are more volatile. You need to sit down with a book or infront of a wen browser and do some reading. Try this:

And so we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past.0 -
There are dozens, if not hundreds, of trackers depending on what you want to track - the UK, US, global, emerging markets or something sector specific?
The ones from Vanguard (or Fidelity) are good starting points as these are available on most platforms and are generally low cost.

My apologies if this is a daft question but what length of time do you consider to be a "full cycle"?
Would that be 15+ years?
