Do nothing. Nobody cares about POPLA (whether newbies try it or not is largely irrelevant to the final outcome of discontinued claims), which is why I'm not wasting time updating advice on it!

Stop looking for a 'next step' … how I hate that phrase. We aren't teaching people how to walk! Just ignore UKPC and read some threads about DCB Legal discontinuances.

Obviously tell UKPC and DCB if you move house (and open all letters promptly) but that's common sense, not parking knowledge.

    Relax!

You are not bang to rights because what you've so far missed is that ALL DEFENDED CLAIMS END UP DISCONTINUED.

    🙂

Thanks. So ignore everything until I get a 'letter before claim' basically.

On one end of my mind, I do not want to pay these people, but on the other end of my mind, this claim stuff (when it gets there) is quite overwhelming. I'm not sure how much 'fight' I have as sad it is to admit that.

    But it's:

    • copying & pasting a pre-written defence
    • filling in one form (where we tell you what to put) then
    • one two minute phone call, and
    • twiddling your thumbs until the inevitable discontinuance.

    😀

Makes sense. Having read a couple of the DCB Legal threads on here, is it just a fact that UKPC have never taken any of their cases to court?

I've heard of other parking companies that have taken cases to the courts, but the DCB Legal threads and I'm assuming your advice is based on the fact that UKPC never do?

is it just a fact that UKPC have never taken any of their cases to court?

Single PCN claims filed by DCB Legal for UKPC: NONE continue to hearings.

Nailed on discontinued, it's believed it's not in their UKPC contract to continue. Same with Euro Car Parks and Smart Parking, and some others.

Our take on it is that DCB Legal simply use & abuse the court system as a cheap method of extreme intimidation and we believe they 'front' the £35 fee like others of their ilk. Works well for them. Their profits are in the millions and they aren't even a parking firm.

    Thank you!

I'll just sit tight and hope it does get discontinued at the court claim stage.

I don't think there's much point in trying POPLA, as I essentially occupied 4 bays with my long wheelbase van, so they would probably just reject it based on that point.

I admit that the parking wasn't great. It's difficult enough to park a van in retail park car park, but this was lazy from myself, as I could've made a bit more effort to park in a bay and just overhang the second bay behind me a bit (they probably would've issued a charge for that too I bet).

Yes, someone will probably comment that I shouldn't be parking a van here if it can't fit in a bay, but where else am I supposed to park my van if I need to visit somewhere like this retail park? No alternative street parking for miles.
