Thames Water, how do I take a reading at a flat I am moving to?

Thank you all. I suppose I have to adjust my expectations and realise that water usage/readings work differently to electric and gas, first time I am responsible for a metered property. Hearing that TW do their readings every 6 months was another proof of that (as well as surprise!)
I just hope they will be billing me correctly, in terms of when approx my usage started, as well as the amounts used. Who knows, I may yet find the meter…

Just an update in case someone in a similar situation reads this thread later - TW customer support suggested yesterday they can do an estimated reading, so I agreed to that.
Then this morning I saw another cover in front of the house, and while I wasn't able to lift it (had no tools) I could actually see meters through the holes on it, and with the help of my phone I managed to locate - as well as photograph - my meter (the meter ID as well as the numbers were both visible). It was the same figure that TW suggested as "estimated", so it's good to know they match. And I am pleased to know where my meter is 😁

Excellent conclusion 😁

Well done. For info, when I was sorting my dads estate out a few years ago, we were able to sort out all the utilities fairly easy except the water. We had had at least 3 letters from the water company (Severn) informing us the water meter needed replacing, but we had made half a dozen calls trying to find out where the existing one was. And this was a house, so we thought it would be easy. Turns out it was on the footpath about 6 houses down the street. After all that, his entire bill for the end of the year was about £7.
